The Grade 8 BCs were founded in 2001.  It had been Rich Goulet’s dream for a decade. When Pitt Meadows built its recreation gym in 2000 it meant that Rich Goulet had access to three gyms within one minute of each other.

The first tournament was a boy’s tournament.  Two years later, the Grade 8 girls were added and Grade 8 March Mania became 64 games in three days with nearly 3000 fans in attendance. Sold out championship games have highlighted this event.

Pitt Meadows, coached by Rich Goulet was the first champion over a favored McMath team. The tournament has seen many great Grade 8 teams take away the gold. Many Senior ranks have been filled by grade 8 provincial alums.

After being hosted at Pitt Meadows for 17 years, the tourney was moved to Semiahmoo HS where it enjoyed great tournaments for 2 years. For the next 2 years, the Provincials will be hosted by MEI. MEI has a rich history of basketball in this province as well as a rich history of hosting BC’s at all kinds of levels.

In 2022 and 2023, the tourney will move to Fleetwood Park.  We are still looking for a site for the 2024 & 2025 tourney.
